Meer dan 130 advocaten opgepakt of geïntimideerd in China

Het aantal mensenrechtenadvocaten dat is gedetineerd, gearresteerd, incommunicado wordt gehouden, opgeroepen zich te melden of is beperkt in hun vrijheid in China sinds 9 juli is momenteel 132, volgens de China Human Rights Lawyers Concern Group.

Behalve deze 132 advocaten zijn nog een 104 anderen, voornamelijk personeel van advocatenkantoren en mensenrechtenactivisten, onderwerp geworden van de massale overheidscampagne tegen mensenrechtenadvocaten. De golf van arrestaties, detenties en andere intimidaties begon nadat sommige van de personen die het betreft in protest waren gekomen tegen de arrestatie van advocaat Wang Yu uit Beijing, die donderdagochtend in alle vroegte verdween. Later die dag werd ook advocaat Zhou Shifeng, met wie Wang Yu het in mensenrechten gespecialiseerde kantoor Fengrui leidt, gearresteerd.
