Position of lawyers

Lawyers in Honduras are often confronted with violence. Information provided by the Honduran Bar Association states that more than 90 lawyers were killed between 2010 and 2015. The majority of these murders remain unsolved. Impunity is thus a major problem.

Legal Profession

Lawyers’ associations
Lawyers in Honduras are member of the Colegio de Abogados de Honduras (CAH). Other legal professionals like judges, prosecutors and notaries are also members of the CAH. Membership is compulsory. The Colegio has about 18,000 members.

Rules for lawyers and disciplinary proceedings
Rules for lawyers and disciplinary proceedings are regulated by the Law on the legal profession of Honduras, the Ley Organica del Colegio de Abogados de Honduras.
