Syria Burhan al Sakkal dies in prison
L4L would like to ask your attention for the fate of Syrian lawyer Burhan al Sakkal. He died recently in prison, where he was held since October 2012 after his house was invaded by security service agents. Reportedly he was tortured during his imprisonment and he was denied necessary medical assistance.
Furthermore, L4L wishes to draw attention to the great number of lawyers who have become victims of the repression by the Syrian authorities, in particular enforced disappearances. Of 37 lawyers it is currently unknown where they are.
L4L has called upon the Syrian Minister of Justice to stop the repression of lawyers in Syria (see the letter that was sent here).
