DRC Lawyer subjected to intimidatory acts

Didier Kalemba, a lawyer from the Democractic Republic of the Congo, has been subjected to intimidatory acts. He received a series of threathening calls, ordering him to appear at the headquarters of the Agence Nationale de Renseignements (ANR, National Intelligence Agency) on the morning of 3 February. When he didn’t obey this order, he received another phone call in which the caller threatened him and his family. On 12 February 2014, Didier Kalemba addressed a formal complaint to the public prosecutor’s office in connection with the intimidatory acts.

Didier Kalemba is a lawyer who has been acting as a protection officer for the Association Congolaise pour l’Accès à la Justice (ACAJ, Congolese Association for Access to Justice). His work mainly focuses on following up on cases of arbitrarily detained persons, particularly political prisoners or prisoners of conscience.

L4L is in contact with a number of lawyers from Congo and is currently considering what actions to take for Didier Kalemba.
