Petition to International Association of Prosecutors

Lawyers for Lawyers, together with a large coalition of organizations, has made an appeal to the International Association of Prosecutors to take the necessary steps to ensure that they comply with the Standards of Professional Responsibility and the Statement of the Essential Duties and Rights of Prosecutors.

While recognising the commitment and sacrifice of many prosecutors the organizations have observed situations in which some prosecutors have been involved in prosecutions that violate basic human rights laid down in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and subsequent international covenants, conventions and instruments to which the Association should adhere to.

A particularly worrying development is the increase in the prosecution of human rights defenders, including lawyers.

Please find the petition here.
