L4L Young Bar Association Benefit Dinner raises fantastic sum for L4L!

On 7 June 2012 the first Amsterdam Bar Benefit Dinner was held. During this dinner, organized by the Amsterdam Young Bar Association, auctioneer Sophie Bremer auctioned off various items, the proceeds of which went to the Lawyers for Lawyers Foundation. The auction and the dinner jointly raised a record sum that L4L is absolutely thrilled with.

After the opening speech by the Amsterdam Dean Germ van Kemper, L4L‘s chairman Phon van den Biesen told the audience of the plans L4L has for the sum raised. L4L will focus on the 37 Turkish lawyers who have been held in pre-trial detention since November 2011. As of July 2012 a great number of hearings are scheduled. L4L will ensure that those trials are attended by observers to guarantee due process and also to support our Turkish colleagues. In addition, L4L will focus on the ‘Basic Principles Awareness Campaign’ in Iran to promote the ‘Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers’ in this country.

L4L wishes to thank Leonie Schapink, Maarten Stoop, Elske Hylkema, Tjibbe Douma, Kim Schuurmans, Willem Keukens and Roderick Nieuwmeyer for organising this great event. We also express our gratitude to the many sponsors of this fantastic benefit event.
