Philippines L4L publishes report on attacks against judges and lawyers

In November 2008 the International Verification and Fact Finding Mission (IVFFM), composed of lawyers and judges from the Netherlands and Belgium, went to the Philippines to investigate the killings and harassment of their Filipino colleagues. The IVFFM is a follow-up to the first mission L4L sent to the Philippines in June 2006.

The IVFFM found that lawyers and judges in the Philippines are still threatened, intimidated or even killed, as a consequence of which the legal profession is under great strain. According to the report, the Government of the Philippines “has not sufficiently implemented the necessary substantive and preventive measures.”

Please find the full report, an executive summary and the annexes to the report below. For more background on L4L and the Philippines, please have a look here.
