Hoda Abdel-Moneim

Hoda Abdel-Moneim, is a 65-year-old Egyptian human rights lawyer and recipient of the 2020 Human Rights Award from the Council of Associations of Lawyers and Judicial Bodies in Europe, known for reporting and litigating on human rights’ abuses and enforced disappearances.

Hoda forcibly disappeared for 21 days in November 2018 and held incommunicado until January 2019. She was then arbitrarily sentenced to 5 years on terrorism-related charges. Whilst serving the last day of this sentence, on 31 October 2024, a new case was brought against her on these same charges she had been convicted of. On 18 November, another case with these charges was brought against her. Mrs. Abdel-Moneim’s health has deteriorated in custody due to insufficient medical care, despite her family’s appeals. Authorities have restricted family and lawyer visits and denied access to case documents and medical reports.
