Ali Yildiz is a lawyer from Turkey who held office in Ankara. He was also a member of the Law and Life Association, providing scholarship to students and doing projects on international human rights.
In 2016, while based in Europe, Ali Yildiz established the Arrested Lawyers Initiative, a lawyers initiative with the aim of protecting colleague lawyers from Turkey who are facing threats, arrests and prosecution. The Arrested Lawyers Initiative worked in cooperation with the International Bar Association Human Rights Committee, the CCBE, the Law Society of England and Wales, the Bar Human Rights Committee (BHRC) and many more Bars around Europe including Italy’s CNF, France’s CNB, Norway’s Advokatforeningen. The initiative also worked together with Lawyers organizations, such as Lawyers for Lawyers and the Endangered Lawyers.
The Arrested Lawyers Initiative provides information about the current situation of lawyers in Turkey on an ongoing basis. Reference to this information was made in documents of the United Nations and the United States Secretary of State.
Besides his work for the Arrested Lawyers Initiative, Ali Yildiz is currently studying European and International Law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels.
Ali Yıldız is one of the candidates on the shortlist of the Lawyers for Lawyers Award 2019.
