The Lawyers for Lawyers Award aims to honour lawyers who have made significant contributions to the protection of the rule of law and human rights in challenging environments. Through the Award, Lawyers for Lawyers generates public recognition for their work. The prize is a special token as well as a donation of €10.000.
Announcement of the Lawyers for lawyers award 2025
Jury decision
Ten human rights lawyers from across the world were nominated for the Lawyers for Lawyers Award 2025. The independent expert jury unanimously selected Angolan lawyer Zola Ferreira Bambi as the laureate. Additionally, the jury shortlisted Dmitri Nikolayevich Talantov from Russia and Kenia Veliza Oliva Cardona from Honduras.
The Award will be presented at a ceremony co-hosted by Lawyers for Lawyers and the Amsterdam Bar in the Rode Hoed in Amsterdam on 15 May.

Selection criteria
- The nominee is a practising lawyer or lawyers collective, or was practising until recently.
- The nominee must have made an exceptional effort to promote the rule of law and human rights.
- In conducting their work, the nominee is prevented from carrying out their work independently or is at considerable risk.
- The potential impact of receiving the Award on the lawyer and their work, including whether or not the nominee has previously been the recipient of high-profile recognition.
Nomination guidelines
- Anyone can nominate a lawyer of lawyers collective for the Lawyers for Lawyers Award. Self-nomination, however, is not permitted.
- Incomplete nomination forms will not be taken into consideration.
- There are no requirements for the nationality and/or country of origin of the nominee.
- Lawyers who were nominated for previous editions of the L4L Award may be re-nominated.
