Russia International conference on human rights in EU and Russia
On 28 and 29 October 2013, an international conference on ‘Human rights in the European Union and in Russia’ was held in St. Petersburg. Eighty academics, jurists, lawyers, representatives of NGOs and students discussed current human rights issues in the EU and Russia. L4L and the Russian Foundation Human Rights Resource Center organised the conference. Judith Lichtenberg, L4L board member, was one of the speakers at the conference.
The goals of the conference were:
– promoting dialogue between academics and legal experts in Russia, the Netherlands and the EU;
– discussing the effectiveness of European human rights institutions and the protection of human rights;
– improving the capacity and professional skills of Russian lawyers in the field of human rights protection.
