OMCT Joint Paper Addressing the Increasing Number of Prosecutions Against Lawyers in Tunisia
Lawyers for Lawyers is pleased to announce the publication of a joint paper titled “Lawyers Under the Watch,” a comprehensive examination of the growing challenges legal professionals face in Tunisia. This collaborative effort between Lawyers for Lawyers, OMCT, Awledna, DAMJ, Généralisation Anti-Marginalisation (GAM) and the Tunisian Human Rights League sheds light on the alarming rise in prosecutions targeting lawyers in Tunisia.
In recent years, the legal landscape in Tunisia has witnessed a surge in cases against lawyers, raising concerns about the protection of the legal profession and the independence of the judiciary. Our joint paper delves into the root causes of these prosecutions by examining the legal and political context, analysing the main attacks on lawyers’ rights based on recent trends, and offering valuable insights into international legal standards that safeguard the rights and independence of lawyers.
