Kyrgyzstan Physical violence against lawyer

L4L would like to bring to your attention the situation of lawyer Tatiana Tomina.

Tatiana Tomina is a lawyer from the Human Rights Advocacy Center in Osh Ms. Tomina, and is representing an ethnic Uzbek on trial in relation to the 2010 ethnic violence cases. This case strongly resembles the case of Tahir Asanov that L4L brought to the attention in November 2010.

Tatiana Tomina has been the victim of threats and verbal and physical violence for at least four times within a year, some of which in courtrooms, the most recent incidents being last week. Neither the police, nor the judge, have, even though they witnessed both the verbal and physical violence, responded adequately in protecting Tatiana Tomina.

L4L is concerned that Tatiana Tomina is being targeted for her legitimate activities as a lawyer, and would like to ask for your support through the means of a letter writing campaign. Please download these example letters, adapt, print and sign them and send them via airmail to the addresses mentioned in the letters. If you have done so, please let us know via secr@lawyersforlawyers.nl
