L4L Update Basic Principles Database

De afgelopen weken is de database van documenten die refereren naar de Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers ge-update. De database is aangevuld met de meest recente documenten, ruim 50 stuks.

In de VN Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers worden op kernachtige wijze de internationale normen beschreven die zien op de belangrijkste aspecten van het recht op onafhankelijke juridische bijstand. De Basic Principles zijn op 7 september 1990 unaniem aangenomen op het Eighth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders in Havana, Cuba.

In november 2011 heeft Lawyers for Lawyers besloten om een databank te creëren die documenten bevat waarin verwezen wordt naar de Basic Principles. Informatie over de Basic Principles of the Role of Lawyers is zeer versnipperd en vaak slecht toegankelijk. De databank maakt informatie over de Basic Principles beter beschikbaar, waardoor advocaten over de hele wereld die de bescherming van de Basic Principles het hardst nodig hebben, beter in staat gesteld om informatie over de Basic Principles te bestuderen en te gebruiken. Dit zou uiteindelijk moeten leiden tot promotie, en regelmatiger gebruik van en veelvuldiger verwijzing naar de Basic Principles.
