Petitie naar International Association of Prosecutors

Lawyers for Lawyers riep, tezamen met een grote coalitie van organisaties, de International Association of Prosecutors op om ervoor te zorgen dat zij voldoen aan de Standards of Professional Responsibility and the Statement of the Essential Duties and Rights of Prosecutors.

De organisaties erkennen de inzet en de offers die vele officieren van justitie brengen. Desondanks zijn er ook situaties bekend waarin officieren van justitie betrokken zijn geweest bij vervolgingen van personen, die niet verenigbaar zijn met de Universele Verklaring van de Rechten van de Mens en de in internationale verdragen neergelegde fundamentele mensenrechten. Ook de International Association of Prosecutors moet zich houden aan deze internationale instrumenten.

Een bijzonder zorgwekkende ontwikkeling is de toename in de vervolgingen van mensenrechtenverdedigers, waaronder advocaten.
