China L4L en LRWC dienen UPR-rapport in

L4L en Lawyers’ Rights Watch Canada (LRWC) hebben op 4 maart een gezamenlijke indiening voor de Universal Periodic Review (UPR) van China ingestuurd. China wordt behandeld tijdens de zeventiende UPR-sessie op 22 oktober 2013.

L4L en LRWC bevelen de Chinese autoriteiten onder meer aan om ervoor te zorgen dat advocaten die voor de mensenrechten opkomen of tegen onwettige handelingen door ambtenaren in verweer komen hun beroep in vrijheid en zonder inmenging van de overheid kunnen uitoefenen. Ook moeten advocaten in staat worden gesteld om professionele verenigingen te kunnen vormen of daaraan deel te nemen, en moeten de uitvoerende organen van die verenigingen worden gekozen door de leden en hun taak in vrijheid kunnen uitoefenen.
