Syrië Burhan al Sakkal sterft in gevangenis

L4L wil uw aandacht vragen voor het lot van de Syrische advocaat Burhan al Sakkal. Hij is onlangs overleden in gevangenschap, waar hij sinds oktober 2012 zat nadat zijn huis was binnengevallen door veiligheidsfunctionarissen. Volgens berichten is hij tijdens zijn gevangenschap gemarteld en is hem noodzakelijke medische hulp ontzegd.

Daarnaast wil L4L nogmaals wijzen op het grote aantal advocaten die slachtoffer zijn geworden van repressie door de Syrische autoriteiten, in het bijzonder van gedwongen verdwijningen. Van 37 advocaten is op dit moment onduidelijk waar zij zich bevinden.

L4L heeft de Syrische Minister van Justitie opgeroepen op om de onderdrukking van advocaten in Syrië te stoppen (zie hier de brief die werd verzonden).
