Iran Advocaten staan stil bij hun vervolgde collega’s

Het Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC) publiceerde ter gelegenheid van de dag van de mensenrechten, vrijdag 10 december 2010, een interview met de Iraanse advocate Shirin Ebadi. In het gesprek lichtte ze toe wat het probleem is voor mensenrechtenadvocaten in Iran. “De grootste uitdaging is dat de Iraanse overheid zich niet wil houden aan zijn eigen internationale verplichtingen.” Toen de secretaris generaal van de Iraanse Hoge Raad voor Mensenrechten, Mohammad Javad Larijani, de VN in New York onlangs toesprak, zei hij dat de Iraanse overheid advocaten niet het zwijgen oplegt, maar dat de advocaten worden vervolgd omdat ze Iran in gevaar brengen door met de buitenlandse pers te spreken. “Het geven van interviews aan niet-Iraanse pers is geen misdaad. […] De waarheid is dat de Iraanse overheid geen publiciteit wil voor mensenrechtenschendingen.”

Behalve dit interview met Shirin Ebadi, plaatste het IHRDC ook een getuigenverklaring van Shadi Sadr en een achtergrondstudie naar het strafrecht in Iran. In de getuigenverklaring doet Shadi Sadr uitgebreid uit de doeken hoe ze vervolgd werd en hoe het werk haar onmogelijk werd gemaakt. Zie voor meer informatie ook de site van het IHRDC.
