Syrië Advocaat slachtoffer van gedwongen verdwijning

Op 31 januari 2014 werd advocaat Roshdy El Sheikh Rasheed meegenomen uit zijn huis naar een onbekende locatie door individuen in burger kleding. Vanwege de ligging van zijn huis in Tadmor, een regio die onder controle van regeringstroepen staat, lijkt het zeer waarschijnlijk dat de autoriteiten zijn betrokken bij de gedwongen verdwijning van de advocaat. Zijn verblijfplaats is tot op heden onbekend.

Roshdy El Sheikh Rasheed is de vice-president van de Arabische Organisatie voor Mensenrechten (AOHR) in Syrië, een internationale organisatie met VN-ECOSOC consultatieve status waarvan het doel is om de naleving van de beginselen van de mensenrechten in de Arabische landen te promoten.

Roshdy El Sheikh Rasheed ontvluchtte Homs te Tadmur in 2013 om medische hulp te zoeken voor die hij opgelopen tijdens het documenteren van schendingen van de mensenrechten tijdens gewapende gevechten in Homs.
