Vietnam Le Quoc Quan veroordeeld tot 30 maanden gevangenisstraf

Op 2 oktober 2013 is Vietnamese advocaat Le Quoc Quan veroordeeld tot 30 maanden gevangenisstraf voor belastingontduiking.

Le Quoc Quan is een in Vietnam welbekende advocaat en mensenrechtenverdediger. Sinds 2007 wordt hij voortdurend lastiggevallen door de Vietnamese autoriteiten, in verband met zijn mensenrechtenactiviteiten.

Le Quoc Quan werd op 27 december 2012 gearresteerd door de politie in Hanoi, op verdenking van belastingontduiking. Hij ontkent alle aanklachten tegen hem. Net als vele Vietnamese mensenrechtenadvocaten, bloggers en activisten, is Le Quoc Quan regelmatig het slachtoffer geworden van willekeurige arrestaties en staat hij onder constant toezicht. 

L4L heeft reden om te geloven dat deze recente veroordeling van Le Quoc Quan, evenals de vorige willekeurige arrestaties en aanhoudende intimidatie, rechtstreeks verband houden met werk van Le Quoc Quan in de verdediging van de mensenrechten. L4L zal dan ook actie blijven voeren voor Quan, totdat hij onvoorwaardelijk zal worden vrijgelaten.
