Turkije L4L, LRWC, Law Society en FTW gezamenlijke UPR submission

L4L heeft in samenwerking met Lawyers’ Rights Watch Canada, de Law Society of England and Wales en Fair Trial Watch een inzending gedaan voor de Universal Periodic Review van Turkije voor de VN Mensenrechtenraad die zal plaatsvinden in januari/februari 2015. In deze ‘submission’ benadrukten de organisaties dat juridische procedures worden gebruikt om advocaten die politiek gevoelige zaken behandelen het werken moeilijk of onmogelijk te maken. Dankzij het feit dat L4L en FTW de afgelopen 3 jaar bijna alle hoorzittingen in de massa zaken tegen advocaten in Turkije hebben bijgewoond, waren de organisaties in staat om gedetailleerde aanbevelingen te doen.  In de ‘submission’ is vooral nadruk gelegd op de verplichtingen van de Turkse autoriteiten met betrekking tot de Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers. L4L lanceerde in 2011 een database waarin documenten waarin gerefereerd wordt naar de Basic Principles gevonden kunnen worden.
