Lawyers for Lawyers

Countries of the lawyers we have supported

Lawyers play a crucial role in upholding the rule of law. They ensure that defendants are given a fair trial and it is important that they are able to perform their work freely and independently. According to the UN Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers, governments have the duty to protect lawyers and to ensure that they are not hindered in their work.

In reality however, in many cases governments do the exact opposite. In certain countries lawyers have to fear their local authorities. They have to put their personal freedom at risk to defend their clients’ right to a fair trial, and in many cases are imprisoned, threatened or physically attacked. Lawyers for Lawyers supports these lawyers from various countries, including the ones in the following list.
